An auto-renewal clause extends the contract for a further period, often another year or album, unless you give written notice to terminate within a specified window before the current term expires. Missing the window, even by a day, can lock you in for another full cycle.
Notice windows are often narrow (30–60 days) and easy to miss, especially if you don't have a lawyer watching your calendar. Auto-renewal clauses favour the party with lawyers on retainer.
