User-generated content (UGC) refers to content created by fans and others using your music, TikTok videos, YouTube fan edits, Reels, and similar. Platforms use content ID systems (like YouTube's Content ID) to identify and monetise this content. Labels typically register recordings with these systems and collect the resulting income.
Why it matters
UGC generates real revenue that flows to whoever registered the recording with the platform's content ID system.
